  • Mom of dc with food allergies - do you have any theory as to why your dc developed them? My ds has nut allergy (no family history). I ate a tons of nut products (craving them) while pregnant and while breastfeeding, I am wondering if it had something to do with dc developing allergy. Allergist tells me she doesn't know - they still don't know definitively why so many kids have food allergies now...

    • I ate a ton of nut products while pregnant (peanut butter every morning for breakfast) through two pregnancies. Some allergies in my family, and two dcs without allergies.

    • Dd with a dairy allergy here - no idea, just bad luck I guess. No real family history and although I do eat cheese etc. I don't drink milk. It sucks. Now pregnant again and am being told I should cut out dairy completely while nursing - ugh!!!

    • I am convinced. PB and nuts were my main foods while pregnant. I am a vegetarian and was actually advised by nutritionist to eat that way for sufficient protein (I was losing weight instead of gaining). Dd is allergic to green beans and PB.

    • per a major childrens allergist: latest theories are that allergies go up as our is less stressed by infections. As we sterilize things and inoculate the immune system becomes more allergic. Not an individual thing a group thing
