  • I want to donate my cord blood. Anyone do this yet? How do i find a company to do the collection? My docotor said the hospital doesn't provide someone. It's an outside jub. TIA

    • Only a few hospitals do collection for donation. I know that Cornell does (but not on Fridays or Saturdays if you happen to deliver then). Check out the website for the National Cord Blood Registry for more info.

    • why don't you donate your cord blood to its rightful owner--your baby--at birth? Delay clamping and cutting and let that stem-cell-rich, oxygenated blood improve your baby's hematocrit at birth as it's been shown to do.

      • usually your OB should have pamphlets in his/her office. He/she should be able to recommend one.

    • The hospital where we had ours takes donations on an as needed basis. It happened that the day we delivered they weren't in need but we were glad to know that it was available. perhaps on our next go 'round. Otherwise we didn't feel that the cost in the cord blood banks were worth it seeing that our baby wouldn't be able to use his own cord blood anyways.
